Curved Nozzles

Varel’s new curved nozzle technology is designed specifically for use in clay-heavy formations where bit balling is common. These nozzles direct fluid flow based on their orientation, taking advantage of existing fluid energy without sacrificing TFA. They are fully interchangeable with standard nozzles.

Located in the face of the gauge pad, this additional gauge cutter is designed to maintain a fully gauged hole while drilling.

(G1) Step Gauge

The Step Gauge is designed for use with conventional rotary steerable, PDM, and “Point the Bit” RSS drilling assemblies, providing flexibility for a range of directional drilling applications.

(G2) Relief Gauge

The Relief Gauge is designed for all Puss RSS systems. It is based on the concept of increasing lateral displacement to maintain gauge stabilization and can eliminate the need for full active gauge designs in many applications.

The Active Gauge for “Push the Bit” systems is designed principally for high DLS/3D sidetracking drilling applications where a very high level of side-cutting action is the prime requirement.

(H) Enhanced Nozzle Pattern

Typical nozzle pattern is one nozzle per blade. In an (H) pattern there is more than one nozzle per blade built into the bit for increased hydraulic efficiency.

(J) Reverse Circulation

Can be used to enhance the removal of cuttings through the center of the bit increasing the rate of penetration.

(L) Lateral Jets

Highly angled jets near the center of a bit create cross-flow hydraulic energy optimizing cooling, cleaning, and chip removal helping sweep away cuttings off the bit face.

(N) Reduced Nozzle Pattern

Typical nozzle pattern is one nozzle per blade. In an (N) pattern there is less than one nozzle per blade built into the bit to increase hydraulic efficiency in less than optimum hydraulic situations.

A high density cutting structure arrangement gives longer bit life through a variety of rock types without sacrificing ROP. The PowerCutters provide extra density on the critical shoulder area of a bit.

(R) Diamond Shock Studs

Used in abrasive formations when drilling conditions cause bit vibrations, shock studs return the bit to smooth drilling conditions increasing bit life and efficiency.
